3 Simple Ways to Improve Your Organization's Homepage

Posted by Geoff Skadra on Mon, Aug 07, 2017 @ 10:08 AM

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. That's the reason we wear professional suits, make sure our breath is fresh, and deliver a hearty handshake when we first make someone's acquaintance. But what about our websites? When someone goes to your homepage for the first time, they're getting an impression of you as a company. So, if you want to make sure you're leaving the right impression, here are three, simple things you need to do post-haste.

#1: Make It Mobile Friendly

If you haven't updated your website recently, you need to check to be sure it can be browsed just as easily from a smartphone or a tablet as it can from a laptop or desktop computer. An ever-growing number of people use mobile devices, and if your site doesn't play nice with them, they might just move on to a competitor.

#2: K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid)

Simple websites work better than complex ones. If your page is too busy, streamline it so it's easy to absorb at a glance. Make sure your headings are easy to see, the page is simple to navigate, and that backgrounds, display images, videos, etc. add to the overall impression rather than act as visual distractions or drain on the loading time.

#3: Make Yourself Easy to Contact

One of the biggest mistakes you can make is burying your contact information somewhere on a hard-to-find page. So make sure your email, physical address, phone number, and any other necessities are sitting in plain view. If that's what someone's looking for, don't make them dig for it.
